8 TB drive in R320 on Perc H310 mini HBA
Hello,
I've got an old R320 server with a PERC H310 Mini HBA..
I bought a disk for backup purposes, but was unable to get it to work.

Note that the non-working disk is currently NOT installed,. thus not shown above.
Disk data:
- HGST (Supermicro)
size: 8 TB
SAS 12Gb/s
4Kn
Type US7SSJ800
HUH728080AL4200
The system reported a failure and a wrong size around 900GB, if I recall correctly.
Please tell me if additional information is required.
Are there disk size or other limits?
Is it possible to use this drive on the R320?
Can I update the firmware or install another HBA, for example?
Regards, Christoph

Hello,
the PERC H310 doesn't support 4kn hard drives.
I don't have a list of supported drives for H310.
You can install another HBA but is not supported by Dell this modification.
Thanks
Marco

@DELL-Marco B Thank you for the answer.
Are there additional restrictions, or can I use any 512e SAS or SATA drive?
I need something bigger than the 2TB disk already installed for backups; official Dell support doesn't matter, I just want to make sure that it most probably works before buying.
Thanks, Christoph

For other people with the same problem: I've found a solution:
A Western Digital WUH721414AL5201 B240 (12TB) works. The drive MUST NOT have 4k Sectors ONLY. If it can provide emulated 512-Byte sectors, it will probably work. The H310 is assuming wrong sizes (divided by 8) if a 4k native drive is attached.
