Ancient Dell PowerEdge 2900 Server
Alright. So I have this wonderful PE 2900 that I inherited. When I first got it, it was an awesome machine. But I have since then replaced it with a Synology 1817 and think that the Dell might be having some kind of replacement syndrome going on now. The Dell went from working perfectly to no display output and now I was in RDP earlier on to the Dell and everything was cool. But I wanted to split my network cards on the Dell so that I could transfer to the Synology faster but that didn't happen as planned. There was this "Super LAN" connection that was bridging both network cards, so I disabled it and lost connection to the DELL.
Now, as far as the DELL goes, I can't use it locally or remotely now because of that stupid Super LAN connection that I disabled. Does anyone have any suggestions since there is no video output, no remote access and no way to install a modern video card on that motherboard, does anyone know of any other options to move my data from my DELL to my Synology? It's got the original RAID card in it, and I have a 10 RAID, is it possible to move the drives over to Synology and access them that way? There's gotta be something I can. Perhaps if I get a male to male USB cable I could connect that way and pull the data from the DELL?

So, I took a stab in the dark. I have a T1000 NIC that is a four-porter and between Win 2019 and a lot of prayer, the DELL server took to it and I was able to get back in and re enable the Super LAN interface and everything is hunky dory again. Hopefully this post and solution will help someone else in the future. Thanks for at least reading this.

Before I accept my prior "final" response, would anyone know if it would have been possible to take my RAID 10 from the old DELL server using the original RAID controller and shoved those hard drives into my nice new Synology server and been able to read the RAID that way? Just curious if that would have been a feasible solution without wasting the time to find out that it was a bad call...? Thanks.

Hi abbotyuri,
we never tried such way. From a technical perspective, it should work, as you move the controller and the drives.
BUT...
... we don't know how the Synology will identify the controller and if it reads the information as it should.
So, my opinion here ... I wouldn't try, I would go the long way by copying over the stuff.
