Dell R440 not detecting Micron 5400 MAX drives

Hi,

i recently bought 4 Micron 5400 Max Drives for our R440.

I want to migrate into them but after placing them in brackets and installing in server i don't see them in our Windows server 2019 uninitialized.

On brackets indicators are solid green, activity sometimes blinking like twice.

I didn't had time to check in BIOS if they are visible and just want to ask if it is normal that until i create RAID i won't see them when i have RAID Perc 730p installed and other drives are only in RAID ones.

I saw that on website you have firmware for sata 5400 specifically and also for model : MTFDDAK960TGB but it is followed by 1BC1ZABYYR and tihs is not listed on that firmware.

How can i fix that or i should also check if they are in BIOS or somehow other way to get firmware for them.

Bombax,

To start, I am not certain that drive is supported on the server, but that doesn't mean it won't work, just that we haven't tested it with the server. Now to answer your question, no you would not see an unconfigured drive connected to the perc controller from in the OS, as the perc will only display the Virtual Disks.

Now if the drive was connected via the motherboard it would be visible in the OS on its own.

Lastly, you can use OpenManage to perform a lot of things from the OS without needing to shutdown or reboot the server, such as configuring virtual disks. If you were wanting just a 1 to 1 interface you would use OpenManage Server Administrator, or if you were wanting a 1 to multiple server approach you can use OpenManage Enterprise

Let me know if this helps.

That was exactly what i was looking for. Created new raid using OpenManage Server Administrator online, that's great. Disks are working like a charm. Thank You.
