Dell R710 and IBM SAS Drives
Hi all,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R710 server with PERC 6/i RAID controller and variuos IBM SAS hard drives, P/N: 98Y3196, manunfactured by Seagate with model ST3000NM0043.
I've been search into support page but I can't found any update for this model of hard drive. SAS 6Gbps hard drives are compatible with Dell PERC 6/i RAID controller (SAS 3Gbps)?
Kind regards.

Hello,
I would recommend contacting Sales and they can quote you for purchase.
I don't see and 3TB SAS drives on the parts database for the R710.
We do have some 3TB NearLine drives listed.
NL-SAS combines SATA media with a SAS interface, offering higher capacity and better performance than SATA while retaining SAS features like enterprise command queuing.
These are just a couple. Sales may have others available to quote you.

Hello,
This appears to be a Non-Dell drive. The part number ST3000NM0043 does not come up in our parts database.
Being a Non-Dell drive means Dell has not validated it to work. It may work or it may not.
You could try checking with the manufacturer for updated firmware.
If you give me the capacity of the hard drive you are looking for I may be able to find you a Dell part number.

Hi Charles, thanks for you response.
The IBM SAS hard drives have 3TB of capacity, 7200rpm and the P/N are 98Y3196. Those units are manufactured by Seagate with model: ST3000NM0043 and P/N: 1C278-039.
I can't found any information about compatibility with the PERC controller. Thanks for your help.
Kind regards.

One more thing of note:
The Perc 6/i can support up to 2TB physical disks.

As compared to the PERC H700 — validated for PowerEdge R610/R710 and supports >2TB drives

So with the PERC6/I only supporting up to 2TB drives, that is probably why the 3TB drives didn't work.
A few examples of 2TB drives:
These part numbers are Support part numbers and do not generally come up on the Dell web site.
You would need to contact Sales and ask for the Spare Part Department to get a quote for purchase of one of these.

Hello,
If the hard drive contains an IBM part number, this would mean that you cannot find any firmware update from Dell support page. Charles has listed some of the drives that are available and compatible with the server R710, do check if any of the drives are available in your region and test with the drive to check if there is any issues persist.
