Dell R710 w/ PERC H700 & Seagate ST900MM0006 Drives

Hi All,

Looking for advice here, I am setting up this server for home use and currently have Dell ST9900805SS and want to expand the array with used Datacenter Seagate ST900MM0006 drives, which I got from a DC refresh recently.

The drives that came with the server (ST9900805SS) are on their last legs and want to replace them with ST900MM0006. I am yet to decide on the final disk config - but my main issue is when I try and create a VD group for the Seagate drives, the group is forced offline with a reported "Error".

My ask here is - Although the Seagate disks are not certified, should they work?

I have tried the following:

  • Cleared Foreign Config, reset the controller to factory defaults, cleared VD configs
  • Tried disks in different slots, created R-0 with 1 disk
  • Updated PERC H700 to 12.10.7-0001

Any guidance here would be appreciated, thanks!

Hello,

only Dell hard drive are supported on the server. We cannot say if your third party hard drives will work as are some particular firmware version installed on the Dell ones to make it working.

Of course I suggest you to upgrade all version of BIOS iDRAC and PERC as you did.

Thanks
