Dell T610 Perc H700 RAID foreign configuration with missing disk
Hi all,
My old T610 crushed and after reboot I saw this message:
Foreign configuration(s) found on adapter.Press any key to continue or ‘C’ load the configuration utility,or press ‘F’ to import foreign configuration(s) and continue.
After launching configuration utility I saw this:
One disk in foreign RAID is missing. And what I found in PERC H700 manual is that:
NOTE: Ensure that your virtual disk has all the physical disks by verifying that
there are no physical disks marked as Missing in the foreign view page and
that all the disks appear as expected before importing them.
My goal is to boot up the server and copy some data from it (foreign VD contains OS). But I haven't found clear instruction what to do in that situation, and I have no experience with that matter. What should I do to access the data? Import or clear foreign configuration?

In the Foreign view it shows
RAID1 VD0 (PD00 and PD01)
PD01 Online (Foreign)
PD0 is failed, missing
This is ok as you can have one drive missing from RAID1 and still access the virtual disk
The remainder of the hard drives are in the RAID5 and foreign view tab shows only one filed drive. A RAID5 can have one drive failed and still accessible.
You should be able to import from the Foreign View and have the virtual disks online degraded.
You will need to replace PD00 and PD03 and have them rebuild into the array.
I would again urge you to confirm if you have a good backup.
If you don't have one and this is critical information then you may want to consider a data recovery company.

Hello,
First confirm if you have a good backup. If you don't have one and this is critical information then you may want to consider a data recovery company.
Can you provide an image of the [Foreign View] tab and a full view of the [VD Mgmt] tab ?
What RAID array, or arrays, level do you have and how many drives are the array(s)
What I observe from these images:
PD00 is failed. It Reports 0GB capacity.
PD01 looks to be Online in the Foreign config.
PD03 is showing Failed. Maybe that is just failed out of the array or it may be a failed drive.

There are two VD:
VD 0 - RAID 1, two disks:
PD00 (0GB, failed)
PD01 (foreign)
VD 1 - RAID 5, six disks:
PD02
PD03 (failed)
PD04
PD05
PD06
PD07

VD 0 state is foreign as this my main concern. VD 1 state is degraded so I assume data is still accessible.

Hello, I think PD01 disk should be foreign imported.
Respectfully,

Thank you both for your answers. Unfortunately I have no backup of data, so I want to explore all the risks. Can you tell me how high is the risk of loosing data when importing foreign configuration with missing disk?
Also if I choose to import foreign config I get this warning:
I'm wandering if this is a standard warning for this operation or it is displayed because of the missing disk?

The warning message clearly states that importing a foreign configuration with missing disks is an irreversible process. Because you have no backup, the risk of data loss is extremely high. The system explicitly says offline virtual disks cannot be imported. Choosing "Yes" could lead to permanent data loss. Do not proceed unless you have a full backup of your data.
