Physical disk expansion and data migration question

Hello,

We've got one HDD drive down in the DELL R740 server.

It is configured as RAID0.

We are planning to expand another new HDD in a free slot and try to migrate the data in the fault HDD into the new one.

I have some questions:

How can I confirm if the data in the fault disk is still available?

Could you please share the process of expanding a new HDD and configure it as RAID0?

If data in the fault disk is still available, how can I migrate it to the new expanded HDD?

Hello, I’m wondering which PERC you are using at the moment.

How can I confirm if the data in the fault disk is still available?

  • To monitor the disk status on a Dell server, access the iDRAC web interface, navigate to "Storage > Physical Disks" where you can view detailed information about each individual hard drive, including its health status, capacity, and other relevant metrics; you can also access this information by entering the System Setup during boot and selecting the "Device Settings" option to view the RAID controller and virtual disk properties

Could you please share the process of expanding a new HDD and configure it as RAID0?

  • OCE ( PERC Virtual Disk Online Capacity Expansion)

If data in the fault disk is still available, how can I migrate it to the new expanded HDD?

-For this I’m going to have to ask you to look for a 3rd party software.

I hope this helps your understanding:

@DELL-Young E

Thanks a lot for your reply.

The OCE vedio gives a description how to configure a new virtual disk.

So I think I need to first insert a new HDD in a new slot, then system could automatically recognize the physical disk. And then I can follow the OCE process to configure the virtual disk, Raid0. Is that correct?
