PowerEdge R515 can't see SAS disks after switch H700 to H200

Hello,

I am working on a Dell PowerEdge R515 where the provided PERC H700 has been switched with an H200.

When the H700 is installed, the utility correctly sees the enclosure disks (2x SAS) and the frontal disks (2x SATA and 10xSAS). There are no virtual disks nor foreign configurations.

When switching to the H200, the configuration utility only shows the 2 enclosure disks and the frontal SATA disks. The 10 SAS frontal disks are not shown. I tried to remove the SATA disks and the result is the same (in this case only the enclosure disks are shown).

Any suggestion on how could I use all the disks in the machine front? Using the H700 is not possible as it does not allow for JBOD/passthrough and the machine should be used for tests with ZFS. The same swap has been done on another machine without issues.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

We don't typically support field changes of backplane/controller configuration because there are no kits for this.

Do you have the PERC H200 in Riser 2, slot:2

Are you able to check the Part number for H200 and the cables you have done the swap on another system?

Is the other system an R515?

These are the part numbers I see for the R515 H200 and cables.

@DELL-Charles R Hi, both systems are R515 with an H200A in the riser slot.

I took the cables from this server and put them in the one that is working, it keeps going, so it's not the cable. Same for the disks.

The only difference I found between the two setups is that the working card has FW Revision 7.15.08.00-IR, while the other one is reporting 7.15.04.00-IR, where can I find the update? Searching support only returns older versions, such as "Dell PERC H200 Integrated, v.07.03.06.00, A10"

Hello,

the link you provide it is the right one

MPT Firmware Rev:          7.15.08.00-IR

Package Version:              7.03.06.00

can you install it and check?

Thanks

@DELL-Marco B The card is an H200A  (it goes in the "normal" PCI slot), while the download is for an H200I, can I install it anyway? Or do I need the link of the equivalent for the H200A? Is it Dell PERC H200 Adapter, v.07.03.06.00, A09?

Hello,

What is the DP/N number on the H200 that you have?

The "I" stands for Integrated. You can see from the above posted H200 adapters : PWA,CTL,SAS,PERC-H200,INTG

Those are the only H200 for the R515.

@DELL-Charles R

> What is the DP/N number on the H200 that you have?

Should it be printed on the cards or is in the management?

> Those are the only H200 for the R515

Maybe the cards have been taken from other servers, I haven't been told  😅

There should be a sicker on the H200 with a DP/N number.

@DELL-Charles R Thanks, they're both 047MCV, serial numbers begin with CN-047MCV-13740

@DELL-Marco B Updated the firmware with a FreeDOS USB and now it works, I don't know why it didn't work before... Thank you very much
