SCO OpenServer drivers for PERC 4/Di

The Poweredge 2600 is officially certified for Openserver 5.0.6, and requires some patches to work.

"Note: This system has been certified with the onboard HBA chipset in SCSI mode only. Driver's for
the RAID mode (perc4/di) are currently being developed."

Howdy-

Would there be any different issues using OpenServer 5.0.5? The Caldera website doesn't list any information. And, if I understand your reply, RAID is at this time non-functional? If so, how long before drivers are ready (or is this a question for LSI)?

I am trying to install SCO Openserver on a Dell PowerEdge 2600, but I am not getting any joy either with the LSI driver or the Dell perc drivers.

Does anyone know when the drivers will be available?

No, there is not update for this drivers, instead,  we bought a PERC II Raid controller and we use the amird driver.

I've been spending the last week trying to sort this out. First, there are no drivers that work for the PERC4/Di with SCO Openserver. The SCSI drivers aren't even working. I've spoken to LSI and SCO and I've been told that they should have drivers by August (that probably means August 2004). In the mean time, I've been trying to sort out what can be used in place of the PERC4. I have been told by Dell that the PERC3/DC should work, but they also told me the PERC4 would work. Any validation would be appreciated. Everyone tells me any Adaptec RAID card should work with SCO, especially the 2110S and the 3210S. If anyone hears differently, please let me know. I've also been told the NIC installed on teh 2600 will not work with Unix. All in all, a mess.

Let me tell you my experience. i have been trying to install for 4 months SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 in a PowerEdge 2600 with PERC 4/Di configured as RAID mode using lsil driver but it do not work. Reading the documentation for that driver, it explains the driver works in SCSI mode ONLY. Understanding that i configure the PERC4/Di in that mode entering in the BIOS configuration by pressing F2. After appying those changes, in the reboot it sends a warning message telling the RAID config will be deleted in order to switch to SCSI mode.After accepted, the installation of the SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 using lsil driver was succesfull, but you know in that mode there is no fault tolerance. After many phone call to Dell Support people, they tell us the server is not certified to work with SCO OpenServer but it is certified to work with SCO Unixware. We ask for the machine replecement, but they can not do that. After a search, I found that the MegaRAID 428 controller it has drivers to install in SCO OpenServer after a 3 weeks the raid controller was delivered and installed using RAID mode and the amird driver.the only issue was the scsi cables because they are not shiped. you only need to disconect the little cables attached and connected directly from the new controller to the hadr drive cage. In this moment the sistem is working fine regarding the raid controller and the hard disks connected to. I only have a issue in the DAT drive using an Adaptec 39160.

I sympathize with your problems. Because Dell, doesn't support SCO Unix, it's very difficult to get straight and correct answers. I've called tech support multiple times and unfortunately haven't gotten the same answe twice. The MegaRaid 428 used to be called the Enterprise 1200, an AMI board,  I believe. In any case, I'm happy it works. I did find out that although the PE2600 is not "Certified", it is called "Compatible " on the SCO web site. What that means is they haven't finished the testing yet. Hopefully once they get the perc4 drivers, it will then get full certification. I have heard of problems mixing brands of boards, and that may be why the Adaptec board is having problems. I've been impressed with Adaptec's technical support, you may want to give them a call. Good Luck

FYI incase anyone is still trying to install SCO Openserver 5.0.6 on a PE2600 with a perc4 controller, I was able to install fine using the lsil package in SCSI only mode.  The only catch is setting SCSI only mode for the controller in the BIOS.  I don't remember what you have to do exactly (it's a been a few months) but it was pretty straight forward.  I assume it's a similar deal for 5.0.5 but I don't know for sure.  Any information about the release of the supposed driver with RAID support would be appreciated.

Any news on the PERC 4/Di drivers for SCO Openserver 5. Last I heard they were in development!

The drivers are still in development. I spoke (via email) with a

technician from LSI logic (the actual manufacturer) last week and he said to

expect them soon and he had a 'testing' copy (he could not give out!) and

they were very close. If you can't wait the only option is to disable RAID

and run the controller as a regular U160 SCSI controller (HBA = LSIL).

There are finally SCO drivers for PERC4/Di. Go to ftp.dell.com and go to the SCSI/RAID folder. Then download file R67592.exe. Good Luck!

I got a bigger surprise, they work!!! I'm running them on PE2600 w/SCO 5.0.5.

Great! How long have you been running them and did you have to reload the entire OS or can you add it by using the link=command?
