Selected RAID0 instead of RAID6, unsure how to rebuild (if at all possible)
Hey people,
I'm a bit mortified here. I went to add 5 new drives to my RAID6 virtual disk, but when I went to start the operation, I realised that I selected RAID0 instead of RAID6 when reconfiguring. I, after around 90 seconds of frantic searching on how to abort the operation, found here that I could pull a disk to do so: https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/poweredge-hddscsiraid/can-you-stop-a-reconstruct/647e34fcf4ccf8a8dea54573
(Yes I'm aware that the other responses in thread are warning "NO", but I was desperate.)
I, in the hopes that the array would automatically rebuild itself, went through the boot cycle. It, in fact, did not boot into the OS (Proxmox).
Now when I go into the System Setup, the virtual disk isn't even detected (before it would say "Failed" next to it, now it gives me the option to create a new virtual disk). When I check the Physical Disk Properties, the drives that were in the array show as "Foreign" and "Ready", whereas the new drives show only as "Ready".
My hopes are low, but is there any way I can rebuild this array and get my data back? If not, I'm going to see what I can get from a data recovery company.
Thanks in advance :)
EDIT:
Should have specified, it's an R720 16-bay 2.5", with Firmware Version 2.65.65.65

I apologize for the oversight. If you're unable to reconfigure the RAID array, it's likely because the controller has already recognized the failed RAID 0 configuration and is presenting it as a new, empty space.
Unfortunately, in this scenario, data recovery is highly unlikely. As RAID 0 offers no redundancy, the data is essentially lost.
Here are a few steps you can take to confirm and potentially explore further:
Data Recovery Specialist: While the chances are slim, consulting a data recovery specialist might be worthwhile, especially if the data is extremely valuable. They might have specialized tools or techniques for attempting recovery from failed RAID 0 configurations.
Prevent Further Data Loss: Avoid writing any new data to the drives, as it might overwrite existing data fragments.
I understand this is a frustrating situation. Please let me know if you have any other questions or require further assistance.

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community.
https://dell.to/4e5U7eJ
Looks like it is possible, by adding one more disk-> from RAID 0 to RAID 6

Please note when it come to data, that is compelely user's responsiblity, do not forget to back up before you make any changes.

Apologies, I maybe didn't explain it well. I don't have an option to reconfigure. It only gives me the option to create a new virtual disk.

Oh well, my hopes weren't high anyway 😅 Thanks for looking at this, I'm going to chat with a few data recovery companies today and see if I can get the ball rolling.
Thanks!
Note to people reading this: REMEMBER TO BACK UP!
