Install Windows 2000 server in PowerEdge Server
Dear Brothers,
My client would like to purchase a brand new poweredge server (e.g. Poweredge R200 1 U rack-mount), but he has a specific requirement --- he request to install a Windows 2000 server onto it.
I understand that the Poweredge R200 can be equipped with either a SATA II or SAS (SCSI) harddisk, just want to ask for your expert advice on whether Windows 2000 Server can be installed in either of these type of harddisk ?
Thank you for your help in advance.
Best Regards,
Mexx

The disks aren't the problem. The problem is the disk controller. I don't think you can get Windows 2000 drivers for the PERC6 (assuming you're getting one of those on the R200).
One option is to virtualize; install VMware ESXi, Citrix Xenserver, Hyper-V Server (R2) or Windows 2008 x64 (R2) and run Windows 2000 in a virtual machine. This way the hardware drivers no longer plays a role in getting the OS of your choice to run on the server.

Mexx , don't know, but Lsilogic has a driver for the MegaRAID SAS 8708ELP, I believe the equivalent of the Perc 6 , Lsilogic and Perc drivers are basically the same drivers,
Once at the link below go to the driver section

Ps, unless W2000 is needed to run a specific program which will not run on 2003 or 2008, it is not worth going with w2000. W2003 or 20008 are more stable, less issues with resident software and will be supported for years to come.
