Connect Dell Power Vault M5 dual-controller to a switch

Hi,

Can i connect a dual-controllers Power Vault M5012 to one single switch with 2 VLANS (controller A connects to VLAN1, controller B connects to VLAN2)?  or do i have to use 2 switches.  Thanks.

Hello, from what I see that set up is not recommended- and VLan isolation is not good method to get redundancy.

You need at least two switches to connect ME5012 controller connectivity.

LKkevin,

You can do either, the single switch would be found on page 100, and the dual switch on page 37 here. Now on a side note, and as the guide states, I would recommend using multiple switches, this is to avoid a single point of failure inherent to using just a single switch, and to physically isolate replication traffic from I/O traffic.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi, this is my NW consist of 1 PV-M5012, 1 FC Switch, and host servers.  On the FS Switch, i have 2 VLANs.  The Dual-Controllers of PV-M5012 connect to both Vlan 1 and Vlan 2.  Do you think it will work? Thank you.
