Convert MD3620f to MD1220

Hello,

I have customer with two storages MD3620f. We would like to convert one of to expansion enclosure MD1220 and connect it with SAS cables to the second one. We have ordered EMM modules 03DJRJ and after installation, we found out, that it doesn't work, as we expected. The enclosure with EMM modules doesn't initialize. Status light on enclosure and EMM modules remain on amber light.

After some googling we found out, that on the "passive" back plane is chip, which remembers first inserted module and writtes its ID. Does somebody knows how to reset the chip, or change the ID?

Thank you very much in advance for the response

Hello PetrWS,

The only way to reset the ID is to use VXshel account and run the command to reset the ID.  The VXshel account password is not provided to customers, as using it can cause serious harm to your MD3620.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello  DELL-Sam L,

thank you very much for your feedback. We are prepared to order refurbished back plane for MD1220, so there will not be any serious harm, if it didn't work. We already have access to VXshel, but we are not able to discover correct commands.

But it is sad, that Dell creates such limitations, when there is no reason. All enclosure backplanes from this series are same. LSI\NetApp supports controller swap. And if we didn't make it working, this was the last Dell storage which the customer bought :(  what is bad for us.
