Precision 3630 is on and working properly, but the power LED is off.

I recovered this machine in perfect condition and am still using it, but I noticed this strange anomaly: the orange LED lights up for a moment when I press the power button and then stays off.

The PC is working properly, and the only LED I see is the hard drive LED, which flashes occasionally. Is this normal? Shouldn't it stay on as long as the PC isn't turned on?

I should also add that, thinking the LED was faulty, I also tested it with a multimeter...and it lights up.

    Hi,

Today I wanted to disassemble the entire button and LED assembly and noticed that the small LED lights up bright yellow for a moment and then dims. I'm not sure if it's a two-color LED (but it only has two pins). Does everyone have the same problem or just my PC?

@Crina by looking at a few online videos, seems the button doesn't really power up when in operation, strangely

I think it's really a problem with the LED, which apparently loses brightness over time. I did a test and temporarily installed another LED, and the brightness is fine. I can't leave this one because it doesn't fit properly inside the button.

I have a 3650 and that LED has the same behavior.

In the end I solved the problem by replacing the LED inside the button and now the brightness is correct.

@Crina hello, it's very interesting ,I actually ordered a second hand power button, still no luck. .. Same behavior as that one supposed to be faulty in my 3630. Where did you find the LED if I may ask ? This is a "two colors" LED I guess, and I really have no idea where to order it. I noticed also that the white plastic from the push button on the front bezel is somehow to "opaque" ( even though I cleaned it ) to let the white light clearly visible. Still, the LED is ok, I checked it without the front bezel on, it is yellow at boot for a second or so then turns white ( but is "dimmed" and not visible at all ).  Old post, I hope someone will read it :) Thank you guys for any answer you could provide. And yes, even though the airflow and the cooling system in the 3630 is not as efficient as the 3660 and later, I still love that machine !
