Hi, I know this is an old post but I found it via Google. I have this system BIOS set to chassis intrusion = disable. It still does it. This is the only computer I've ever seen that wont power on with the side panel off. Precision 5810's work, T3600's, all the optiplex models, heck even the Rxxx servers (their fans just ramp all the way up).
Sometimes you just want to take a look at the system while its on for troubleshooting or inventory reasons (hey what PCI-e slots are free, how much ram slots, do I need sata power splitters, etc...) for an upcoming upgrade or part switch out. I can't believe this system doesn't let you do that.
