Precision 5820, upgrade to 256GB of RAM DDR4 3200Mhz
My DELL Precision 5820 Workstation has an i9-10940X processor (CLX-X) which supports 256GB of uDIMM DDR4s non-ECC
I was ready to buy the memory yesterday (Timetec 2 x (4x32GB) DDR4 3200Mhz CL22), but something in my mind took me to investigate more before check out.
Looking at the user's manual in the DELL (DELL 5820 Manual) website I found the table that shows the possible memory configuration that is "supported" and there is no support for 8x32GB what I want. But, looking at this post in superuser website (https://superuser.com/questions/1838848/extending-ram-of-a-pc-gives-memory-failure), Ara user mentioned that he can use 128GB of RAM DDR4 with an i9-10900X which combination is not listed in the official table.
"Actually, I added 2x32GB memory from the same model (temporarily taken from another computer), and it worked perfectly with 128GB.
That brings me hope about to buy the 8x32GB memories for my workstations. The idea of this post is to know if someone was in this same situation or If anyone was able to upgrade their computer's memory to combinations not supported or confirmed in the DELL 5820 manual specifically 8x32GB DDR4 3200Mhz with a CLX-X processor.
Thanks,
Cris

Re: I found the table that shows the possible memory configuration that is "supported" and there is no support for 8x32GB
5820 spec mentions
https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/Shared-Content_data-Sheets_Documents/en/us/Precision-5820-Tower-Spec-Sheet.pdf
Four channel memory up to 512GB 2666MHz and up
to 256GB 2933MHz DDR4 (RDIMM) ECC memory.
(Up to 256GB 2666MHz DDR4 (UDIMM) Non-ECC
memory) 8 DIMM slots.
Note: Memory speed is dependent on specific Intel
Xeon or Core X Processor installed.
most people do not use that much memory so I can not find user uploaded 8x 32 GB benchmark. 8 x16 =128 GB yes https://www.userbenchmark.com/PCBuilder?tab=RAM&searchTerm=DELL%205820%208x16GB
of note Dell validated spec is based on Dell oem ram only
you can buy oem ram from third party but make sure it match Dell oem memory maker model number.

Looking today on ebay I see that this is an example of an "unsupported" memory configuration of 96GB of RAM in a DELL 5820. And additional to that, the memory are CORSAIR VENGEANCE 3200Mhz DDR4 1.35V XMP 2.0
