Change audio device type when plugged into docking station (E-Port)

I have an M4800 with an E-Port Plus docking station. I cannot figure out how to get the "which device did you plug in" prompt to display when plugging in a cable to the docking station (it does pop up for the laptop jacks), this means I am unable to configure the mic jack as a line in and cannot get better quality audio through the dock and am forced to use my laptop's jack.
