Dell Precision 5530 second ssd not detected
Hello ALL !
I have a Dell Precision 5530 with 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe and I am trying to add the second SSD option.
I purchased the necessary cable and have tried several BIOS settings (recommneded on various chat/help) and I have also tried several Hard Drives and absolutely nothing shows in BIOS and consequently Windows.
Its it a bad cable or what else can I try to diagnose ?
Thanks in advance for the help
James

Ensuring SATA operation mode set to AHCI.
Check cable carefully for any damage in circuit traces.
Verify in Disk Management as new drive always needs to initialize.
Go over this installation steps for comparison if anything amiss.

@Chino de Oro Yes Bios SATA mode AHCI ... cable looks ok but did all but remove battery (disconnected at the terminal) several times with two different SSD drives. Ordered a new cable also ... hoping thats the issue. I will try the new cable when it arrives. Any other suggestion and current suggestion appreciated
Thanks

I upgraded my M.2 drive from 500GB to 2TB and, in the process, my 2nd SATA drive (500GB) stopped being recognized. I didn't do anything to the 2nd drive now it is missing. I tried changing the BIOS to AHCI (it was on RAID) and that almost messed me, but I was able to get things back operating correctly. I enabled/disabled SATA1/SATA2 in the BIOS to see if that would do anything but alas, no.
It's hard to believe the drive just stopped working. Also, the drive cable seems to be in good condition...and nothing was done to it. I have since reseated it a couple of times but the drive is still missing.
Is this a BIOS issue?

@RW5207 Even though it says I'm a "rookie," I've got experience since the early 80's with PCs...before Dell existed. :)
I have temporarily unplugged the connector to my 2nd SATA SSD and waiting to hear from anyone having a similar problem. Like I stated before, it was working fine until I opened the back and started upgrading my 500GB m.2 SSD to a 2TB m.2 SSD.
