FIPS fingerprint readers stopped working today?

Anyone else have their Dell FIPS fingerprint readers stop working today? Happened here on multiple Precision 7760 and 7770 machines. As of today, Windows 10 doesn't seem to sense you putting your finger on the dell fingerprint reader when you try and enter a new fingerprint or read a fingerprint.

Hi everyone,

Dell has released an article addressing the issue with the fingerprint reader not working after a recent Windows update.

Cause: The problem is due to an expired digital signature in the Broadcom ControlVault driver included in the recent Windows update, which affects the fingerprint reader functionality on certain Dell Latitude and Precision laptops.

Final Solution:

A new ControlVault driver has been released and is also available in the Microsoft Update catalog. To download the driver, please visit dell.com/support.

Yes, same thing here, started early morning, I even did a Windows full restore as I thought it was a malfunctioning driver or something... just wasted my time.

Hi everyone,

While our engineering team investigates the issue, we recommend trying the following workaround and share your feedback with us:

  1. Download and Install: Obtain the latest Dell ControlVault3 Driver & Firmware from the official Dell support website. Make sure to choose the correct version for your operating system.
  2. Reboot When Advised: Even if your Device Manager already shows the same latest version, reboot your system after installation. This step ensures that the changes take effect.

Important: Please note that the investigation is ongoing, and this is not the final solution. However, it may help mitigate the issue in the meantime.

I am seeing this same problem and timeline on two Precision 3560s.

They were both reported to me on 9/27/24.

I updated the BIOS and all offered drivers through the Dell Support utility from their Support page, then rebooted, but observed no change.

I am trying the Dell ControlVault3 Driver & Firmware from this thread today.
