Precision 5520 won't power on

Question

Hello all, any advice would be much appreciated.

My Dell precision 5520 will not power on. Nothing happens at all, pressing the power button does nothing, no lights appear anywhere on the device.

So far I have tried the following:

- Different charger

- Released "Flea power" (when you remove the battery + AC Adapter, press and hold the Power button for 20 seconds, reconnect the battery, AC Adapter and press the power button).

- Pressed the "Fn" key and the "Power" button

- Removed and reinstalled the Ram memory module

- Used the power adaptor with the battery plugged out

- Replaced the DC power jack

None of these have worked, nothing happens when you press the power button. No hardware makes a noise, no lights turn on. The little button on the side with the 5 lights (battery indicator?) does nothing.

If anyone knows anything I missed I would be grateful to hear it - the laptop is only a few months out of warranty Many thanks!

If it was just the power button, would there still not be lights somewhere on the device showing that it's charging, or has access to power?

And yes, the light at the end of the power chord does light up - but those 130 watt chargers are always lit up when plugged into the wall (at least the ones we have are lit).

I tried plugging into 2 receptacles.

Could it perhaps be a combination of a completely dead battery and broken power button? Is there another way to power up apart from the power button, do you think?

It sounds like the motherboard or the power button. When you plug in the adapter, does the light on the cord illuminate? Also stupid question but have you tried plugging into another receptacle? It is possible the battery is stone dead and not charging. And yes the button is for the battery indicator.

Not knowing this MB well, if you can spot where the power button connects to the MB you could try jumping across the pins (like you would for a desktop MB). This video may help as may this one.

I have the same issue.  My display went haywire a couple of times, and after that it refuses to power on.  The power button light lights up for a second and then nothing....

Get the BIOS reset first try restarting. Get your RAM checked as this is the most common hardware which goes faulty and shows such signs.

@DELL-Cares​  Hello.  I am having the same problem.  I have tried all of the same steps and even replaced the battery with a new one.  Still the same problem, the laptop shows no signs of power at all, no lights or noises at all, nothing. A suggestions?  Please help.

I have exactly the same issue with my Precision 5520, it was working fine then nothing... no power button light, no charge light when plugged in, nothing.

I have tested some circuits and found the battery has 11.5V, the charger port is receiving 19V (tested inside the laptop) but all appears to be dead. I have been advised that one of the chips (Possibly northbridge) needs reflowing, so that will be my next course of action. Will update in due course.

@SammyAizen​  I haven't had a chance to investigate further yet. I have several Dell laptops (Inspiron 7460, Inspiron 5458, Latitude 3570 as well as the Precision 5520) so I just grabbed another one to keep working (I'm a teacher so I need a working laptop at all times). I have done a little more research and so far, for my issue at least, I'm still thinking that a reflow of the PCH chipset (Not northbridge as I previously mentioned) could be my fix. I will make a video of the process when I get time to do the work.

After all posted tips, the power adapter was functional and no power was getting to laptop. It seemed like hard resets and discharge did not work.

Disconnecting the CMOS button battery resolved the issue. Take pictures and be patient. It is located on underside of mb so you will have significant amount of disassembly. All other components seem in working order after bios save. Good luck
