Don't throw it away too soon. You are correct, repairing cost as much as a new printer, so I wouldn't have it repaired. The procedure that you used to correct the problem was right. See if the new ink you ordered works. Also if you have any old ink carts, even empty, see if they can be installed without giving you the "right cart incorrect" message. If they don't give that message then you can pretty well assume it is only the ink carts and not the printer. Most of the time it is a bad ink cart and not a broken printer. Though not real likly, it is possible for a number of ink carts to be bad. In that case if the new ink carts are bad Dell will replace them.
Thanks William. I hope you are right. I absolutely love the printer although so many complaints about this same issue have me wobbled about product quality. I am in the car business and we have something called "recalls".
Since my first post I did remove the color cart and try to print with just the black. It worked. So we will see when I get my new carts from Dell on Monday.
The reason it looks like so many complaints is because this is the forum for complaints. This represents less than 1/1000ths of what they sell. The university I work for has over 1000 Dell units with virtually no problems.
Again, Williams advice was correct. My new cartrides for the 962 came in yesterday and now my 962 works perfectly again. These carts have a new identification stamped on them that makes me think Dell recognized the issue and redesigned the carts. They now say "SERIES 5". I do not think I would use any cart that does not have this new identification. I believe its the fix for 99.9% of right cartridge error messages.
My "Series 5" ink carts just stopped working -- with a "left cartridge incorrect" message! Nothing I have tried worked. I ordered new ink, and I am praying the new one works and it is not the printer. I love Dell, but will be quite displeased with my printer can't even last 2 years. (I have a 960)
Alas, I searched for "cartridge incorrect", which is my problem, and I have seen only complaints and no fixes other than buying new cartridges.
This is not my problem. I have the "Left cartridge incorrect" error message, but it is not really a cartridge problem.
I was trying to fax a document via the paper scanner on the 962 and I noticed it was upside down. Rather than be embarrassed sending a blank page, I grabbed the paper, lifted the doc feeder cover and yanked out the paper. I had a couple of more problems trying to send it, like getting the page top sync'd with the scanner so it wouldn't just read half a page and then the fax went through. That is when the "Left cartridge incorrect" message first came up. They are both Dell, I went through all the cleaning, etc. that would run (some won't run because the printer won't print), I went through all the troubleshooters, I even found something with a 922 printer where you were supposed to move the cartridge identifier with your finger to get it in place (not really workable with the 962). Nothing will work.
I don't see it as a cartridge problem since I was scanning when it occurred. Apparently I yanked something out of alignment someplace else and it hosed the printer section of the "all in one".
Did someone mention that kicking it and throwing out the second floor window fixed it? I'm about ready to try that.
for the above post ^^ if they are the cartridges that came with the printer, and something bad happened on it, i think dell can replace it if its still within warrranty and its within 6 or 8 months since it was first used..( not sure with the length of time)... but if it was a seperate order, im almost sure that the cartridges have a shelf life of 2 years..
