Dell 944 Printer/Scanner - Cannot Scan image using the All In One Centre

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition ver 2002 SP2

 

When I try to scan an image using the All-In-One-Centre (AIOC) I get the following error message

 

 

TITLE: Dell Photo AIO Printer 944 All-In-One-Center

   

Scan Was Not Successful

 

Try these Solutions:

 

-         Make sure the All-In-One is powered on

-         Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable

-         Disconnect and reconnect the All-In-One’s power cable

      -     Restart your computer

 

To try and resolve this issue I have

 

I have downloaded the latest drivers/software for the printer from the dell website.

 

I have removed and re-installed the drivers and the AIOC software several time using the removal tool that comes with the Dell 944 software / driver package. This has not resolved it.

 

It appears to be the AIOC software that is faulty, as I can print using the printer and the scanner part of the printer allows me to scan through Windows XP aplications such as MsWord and through the scanners and cameras options in the Control Panel.

 

However, as I usually scan multipule pages into a PDF file I need the AIOC software to work; as it is the AIOC software that has the functionality do this. Microsoft Word and the XP scan options only allow me to scan one image at a time and they in turn only allow it to be save as a TIF or JPG or some other picture format.

 

Does anybody know how to get the AIOC software working?

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your co mputer.

 

Restart your computer.

 

Download the XP Drivers.

 

Install the XP Drivers, you'll be prompted when to connect your printer.

 

 

Scanning

 

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

 

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

 

If you don't have the OCR program on your computer, you can...

 

Insert the disk that came with your printer. If it starts, click cancel. Go to my computer, right click on the drive with the Dell Printer disk, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder and click on install.

Remember to Open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying, click on update the list of applications to send scans to.

Click add, click browse and find Microsoft Word. Add it to the list of applications, rtf type file.

Tried all the steps that you gave me, but the AIOC is still not scanning and the error message that I put in my first message is still coming up when I try to scan.

 

Is there anything else that I can try to resolve this scanning issue?

1/. I am using a USB connection from PC to Printer (Photo 944).

 

2/.I am trying to use the recommended "Dell All-In-One Center - Dell Photo AIO Printer 944" software.

 

3/.I live in Dublin in Ireland. Sorry I used the English spelling of Centre but that is how we spell it over here. I am sure Michael Dell would not approve.

 

Anyway, look forward to your reply - I am at my wits end to solve the Scanning problem. I can print, copy and use the "PictBridge from SD card for Photos" using the above software. But as soon as I try to Scan - no way on that AIO Software. But OK to Scan in using WORD or various Wizards. As Sherlock Holmes might say -"This is a 2 pipe problem Watson"....

How is the 944 connected to the computer? USB or wireless? If wireless, is it the 3300?

 

What program are you trying to use to scan to?

 

Can I ask what country you're in, since you spelled Center as Centre?

Make sure you have all the Windows Updates, custom ones also, especially net framework. Mke sure to get the latest Java.

 

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your co mputer.

 

Restart your computer.

 

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager.)

 

Go to the USB Controllers and click the + sign.

 

Strting at the bottom, USB Root Hubs, and working your way to the top, USB Universal Controllers, un-install everything in that section.

 

Restart your computer. Windows will find everything. Please be patient, may take 3-5 minutes for the new hardware to find everything.

 

Download the XP Drivers.

 

Install the XP Drivers, you'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on). Hopefully your USB cable is 4ft or under. USB doesn't carry current very well.

 

If everything goes well, then you'll see the Dell All-In-One Center. Open it, if it didn't already, click on scanning and copying. Click on update the list of applications to send scans to.

 

Click add, browse and locate Word. Tell it the type of extension you want to use, .rtf for scanning documents so you can edit them. Also add any extension you want.

Hi - I have a similar problem and am not getting very far with it either.  I have a Dell Photo 944 which worked perfectly well on all features when I had my old system.  My laptop is Vista and although I have used the appropriate patch and re-loaded the appropriate Vista drivers, everything works barr the scanner.  If I go to My Computer and select the Dell All in One Centre, The scanner option is there but whatever I select I get the same message as you do - have tried checking cables, restarting computer......at a total loss now of what to do!

Try running Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

 

Disconnect the printer.

 

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

 

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

 

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers. Install the drivers. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

Do you haver the printer disk? If yes, then try...

 

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Thanks Rick - appreciate your help.  

I worked through your list (didn't get the message re printer not been connected but apart from that everything else ran okay).  Unfortunately just tried the scanner again and still the same message appearing though.
