SE2417HGX, Excel flickering, crashing

Hello crew, 

I have seen similar posts years ago and I wonder if anyone has this issue today in 2020?

I have a Dell SE2417HGX 23.6" TN monitor that I bought as a 2nd screen to my work laptop Dell Latitude, so I can work with data and excel on two screens. (as we are all working from home now).

Every time I move the excel file onto the monitor, it shows up bulky then starts flickering erratically and then crashes the whole excel so I have to use the task manager to end the program. No good, as it crashes all my excel files, always. 

Word opens up bulky looking too but doesn't crash, so I can bare it. 

Now, I'm not an IT pro, but I'm not a basic user either. An average good user. Please may I ask you speak simple language if you know of this issue. 

My IT department says they have not seen this before. 

I tried a different laptop, and I even upgraded the hdmi cable and the same issue persists. 

I tried setting resolution to 100% or 125%, matching the same resolution on both, but as you can imagine that gave me headache, the letters were way too small on my laptop, impossible to work. 

I'm 2 seconds from returning it back to amazon, but was wondering if this would persist on any other monitor.
