BIOS and DRAC update path for PE r530

I have responsibility for an elderly PE R530 - BIOS is at
2.2.5 and the DRAC version is 2.86.86.86.    Wondering what is the appropriate path for bringing these current?

Trandolph,

You don't have to run every BIOS update, but I would recommend that you don't jump more than 2 or 3 at a time, and I really wouldn't advise that you just jump to the latest.
It is best practice when you have a seriously behind system, in regard to updates, to walk the BIOS and idrac up together. My suggestion would be to update the BIOS a couple above the version you are currently at, then update the iDrac to one within the same release time as the BIOS update you just ran, then just keep doing that until they are both up to date and current. The reason being is that it is dangerous to get the BIOS and iDrac too far apart as you run the risk of getting them so far apart they can't communicate with each other which can result in damage to the motherboard requiring a replacement.

Let me know if this helps clarify things for you.

Question is about determining the upgrade path in Step 2.    How can I tell which intermediate versions need to be included to safely go from very old to current?

Hi,

Your iDRAC is the latest, but the BIOS is way too out dated. It will be hard to go through the update, I had this topic about issues withe BIOS update with latest iDRAC. There are also issues with downgrading iDRAC, as this will brick the iDRAC.

Perhaps best is to update the BIOS, sequentially to the latest. There is no safe way of updating now as the updates are supposed to be updated on the following years. My suggestion is to always use the checksum to make sure the downloads are completed.

I had some users reported using the SUU help them tremendously, hence here's the ISO: https://dell.to/3YLzrSM

OK.   Thanks for the info - that would be 15 separate updates and reboots, and you mention issues with BIOS updates with the new DRAC as well.   I don't think that is going to happen.
