Hello,
I'll first note the R720 has been end of life for some time.
We don't have the GPU enablement kit available anymore.
Here you can see GPU support page 22
The R720 can support two 300W, full-length, double-wide GPUs or up to four 150W, full-length, single-wide GPUs.
https://dell.to/4goec10
The PCIE Slot provides 75 watts.
EPS 8 pin connector on GPU riser would provide 150watts
To provide 300W it would be a dual end cable.
Cable example PN#9H6FV
I hope that helps.

"PN#9H6FV" so this cable , the white 8 pin end is labeled "Riser" and it splits to 2x 8pin plugs
so ,if i'm understanding correctly
white 8 pin end to GPU,and the Y splitter end , one is plugged into the riser card 8pin and the other? ( is there more on the Mob for the extra 150w?
so if i run 2x 300w gpu cards i will need 4x internal EPS ports?
i have looked through some of the manuals and cannot find a schematic , i could be having a bloke look
i'm also a electrician as well as IT so i can just make my own cables up.,
just need to know what ports can supply what wattage
GPU Risers = 150w
PCIE = 75w ( On selected ports otherwise 25w)
Mystery other EPS port ?
Thank you for your time wasted helping me with an old server :)

Hello,
If you're running two 300W GPUs, you'd need:
Two PCIe slots (providing 75W each)
Two EPS connectors for the risers (providing 150W each)
Plus two additional power connectors to cover the remaining power.
In total, for two 300W GPUs, you’ll require 4 EPS 8-pin power connectors: two for the risers and two extra to reach the required power.

yes you can use other available 12v feeds, but it’s important to note that running such a configuration might not be officially supported, so we cannot suggest such configuration as technical support unfortunately

To anyone reading this.
Riser2
The PCI16X sockets allow for 75W
The PCI 8 pin power socket allows for 225W
=300w
Riser3
You need the single PCI16x Riser card for GPU
The standard with 2x 8x slots has only a 150W connector for power
to install 2x TESLA k80's or similar card that requires 300W you need the GPU riser
The Power sockets on the dell are PCIE GPU power NOT EPS12V for tesla K80 the pins are in different places and you will make smoke
the Tesla has 4x 12v Yellow wires on the plug clip side and the 4 black grounds on the outer 4 pins away from the clip
the DELL r720's PCIE power sockets have 3x 12v+ lines and 5x Grounds
Please refer online for pinouts
Double check wireing before you smoke machine your r720
