PowerEdge 17G DC-SCM Module compatibility

Regarding DC-SCM Daughterboard modules for 17th Generation of PowerEdge Servers, online retailers and B2B portals list most modules as 17G but some have specific devices / architectures? listed like R6/7715, R770AP or "Hays". Are these modules universal or do they have firmware for specific number of sockets?

    No, Dell 17G DC-SCM modules are not universal. You cannot swap them freely between different models.
    Their compatibility depends on three key constraints:
    • Processor Architecture: Modules contain the system BIOS and iDRAC. An Intel-configured module (e.g., R770AP/R670) will not boot on an AMD platform (e.g., R6715/R7715).
    • Physical Form Factor: Many 17G modules feature an "Attic board" (a secondary daughtercard). This card routes external ports and must physically match your specific 1U or 2U chassis layout.
    • Firmware Configuration: The module holds model-specific hardware profiles. Mixing single-socket firmware with dual-socket hardware will cause the system to lock up during POST.
    Recommendation: Do not buy generic "17G" modules. Always match the vendor listing to your exact server model or Dell Part Number (DP/N).
