Replication Manager 5.2 only one Mount fails

Hello,

We have configured 6 Application Sets for a SQL Cluster with 6 SQL Instances.
The RM Server is also the Mount host for all replications.
On only one Replication the mount fails.

BTW:
I have recently upgraded the RM Server to RM 5.2.
The RM Clients have 5.1.1 and will follow next week with RM 5.2.

Any ideas?

Hi Manfred

Looks like a Windows error here in relation to L: volume.

Please check the windows system evt logs between the times of 10:58 - 11:08.

What version of Windows, Service Pack and VSS hotfix?

Thanks
James.

Hi James,

Thanks for your fast response!

Windows 2003 Ent. x64 SP2
Windows hotfixes:
KB943545
KB936008-v2

I have recently installed hotfix KB940349-v3-x64 due to the long mount times (I thought this could get better) but afterwards the mount error comes up (I think...) so I have uninstalled this hotfix. (bad idea? -> mount fails again)

Hi Manfred

Did you reboot after installing the VSS hotfix?

Is the VSS service running as local system and manual?

Re-install the VSS hotfix, reboto and try again...

Thanks
James

Hi James,

Yes, we rebooted the server.
VSS Service ("Volume Shadow Copy") runs as local system and startup type is manual.
ok, i'll try it.

Thx.

Hy James,

Today we have the same issue.
One Mount failed:

Feb 19, 2009 7:45:30 PM d11770 002016 ERROR: ProcessPostImport failed. Verify that (1) STORPort driver, not SCSIPort, is installed on the mount host. See RM Support Matrix for correct version. (2) All the latest VSS and STORPort hot fixes are installed. (3) The correct version of PowerPath is installed on the mount host; see RM Support Matrix. If the failures are intermittent, then (1) Use the environmental variable EMC_ERM_LUNSNAP_WAIT to increase the time (in seconds) for the newly added devices to appear following a rescan on the system. (2) Use the RM Consoles Job Retry option to start an automatic retry if the job fails. If the problem persists, turn on the VSS tracing and send the output to the customer service.

Hi Manfred

Looks like things are bad within VDS or device rescan on the windows host.

RM continues to receive errors from VDS when it requests a device install or removal.

I would suggest to do the following

1. Check to ensure the mount host intiators are all registered correctly to the clariion (in Navisphere, storage connectivity)
if its wrong, register the host
2. Make sure no LUNZ are present in device manager
3. Unmount all RM replicas
4. Make sure no replica LUNs still exist in the storage group for the mount host
5. Make sure that at least one dummy lun of at least 520MB is present to the mount host at all times.
6. run the following command in CMD - mountvol /r
7. reboot
8. check the vss writers via vssadmin list writers
9. check for VDS / VSS errors during the reboot

Try a single mount
10. Show the syslog errors here.

We might need to go the route of a support call.

James.
