Exporting email for all users into .pst files

We are running emailxtender 4.81, and need to export all the emails into a large number of PST files (so every user has a .pst file for every folder in which they have archived email)

We could show our users how to do it from their email clients, but some will need a lot of hand-holding, and we will end up doing most of the work ourselves.

It would be far better if we could do it from the server. Is there a way?

Good Day Bret,

The search plug in is also located on the EmailXtender server.  It is in Outlook under Tools, and there is no reason why you cannot run the search from the Outlook client on the server.  The export of the mail will be exactly the same as if you were running it from an email client on a workstation.  In addition, you may want to refer chapter 3 of the EmailXtender Search Guide.  It contains instructions about how to export messages to PST containers.

If you do find you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.  This forum is an excellent way to procure information, but another option is the Chat found on the Powerlink site.  It is staffed by Technical Support Engineers and we can usually answer your questions quickly.

Thank you.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.

Yes, we could do the job by running the search tool on the server. But that is not much less work than using the searchtool on the client's machines.

What we were hoping for was a single command or script we could run on the server to extract all the necessary PST files in one (or a few) runs.

Unfortunately, there is no Script or command line availlable for  EmailXtender Search.

Here is a feature that some people are not aware of.

In the Tools Menu, under Option/Container File Option there is a " Separate Message By Owner" Check box.

What this will do is create 1 PST  per Owner when you export to PST. Having said that, this will only work when you are searching for users using the Mailbox Search field and when selecting the "Export Results" check box on the Main Search Screen.

With this method, you could search a group of users, say for a date range and when the search is over it will automatically create a set of PST to the rate of 1 per user.

Hope this helps with your task of exporting all mail to PST.

Regards

Stephane

Stephane,

Is there a way of bypassing the 500 message limit on a search?

I need to export several hundreg gigabytes of messages and doing it in 500 message increments isn't feasible.

Hi Bryan,

There is option to change the default 500 search results to 99999999.

- Launch EX Search Plug-in

- Select Tools

- Options

- Search

- Change “Max Search Results” from 500 to desired value. Maximum value is what I mentioned above.

Thanks,

Rajan

Thanks Rajan.

Not sure how I missed that one.
