Can I create backup dvds with error 2000-0146?
Hi all
have a Del Inspiron 1750 running Win Vista
Looks like the HD is failing.
I have tried to reload the factory op system, but it hung 99% of the way thorough (gave it acouple of hours with the full green bar of the restore) and now using F8 tells me something lime NTLDR is missing, please insert Windows DVD etc, so I cant get it to give the factory restore another go.
I have removed the HD and connected it do my desktop. There I can access the files I need so at least I have everything backed up.
I tried doing an image backup of the drive and it has read errors on the OS part. But the recovery part appears fine.
Is there software or a way to make recovery media (DVD or pen drive) from my non Dell desktop from the recovery partition that I currently have access to, or am I screwed and need to get hold of new install dvds?
many thanks

any many thanks
That helped a lot.
As I had the original restore partition intact, I put that in its own partition ont he new HD and did an instal from a normal vista DVD to get the op initially installed.
Then I followed the directions in post 16 here
http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-restore/158549-restoring-vista-windows-7-laptop-2.html
And that allowed me to use F8 during boot and access my recovery partition that then installed fine.
It's updating to the latest service pack as I speak.
Your info helped me a lot, I would still be stuck without it, many many thanks

Hi ojustaboo,
I've got a link below to a Windows install guide, which includes links to download the OS. You can probably buy the Vista disc on Ebay if you really want one.
