DVD/CD drive unrecognized
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 pentium laptop, 1+ year old running Windows 10 (1703). My DVD/CD player is not recognized. It does not show up under the THIS PC list in File Explorer nor is it listed as a device in Device Manager. When I insert a CD, the small pilot light flashes and I can hear the disc turning, but nothing else. Not recognized.
I lifted the keyboard and re-seated the DVD/CD drive cable, but no improvement.
i tried different CDs and DVDs.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What specific Inspiron 15 model (3542) ?

Reboot into the BIOS. Does the ODD (optical disk drive) appear on the Main BIOS screen under "Fixed HDD"?

My laptop was set to UEFI, and in SETUP, BIOS I saw no mention of CD/DVD. I switched to LEGACY boot mode. Then in SETUP, BIOS I saw CD/DVD/CD-RW listed as the "4th Boot Priority".
I will attempt to upload photos.

I am not referring to the Boot Menu. I meant the 1st Main page of the BIOS =
If not listed there, then either the cable is damaged or the port on the drive or the motherboard.

Chris,
Can you give some guidance on how to get to the Main page of the Bios? Not familiar with that.

Turn off, then on, press F2. (Page 25)
