Factory reset R720
We have a dell R720 server for lab. I want to wipe everthing on this server and want to be in default condition.
I should be like a new box powered on for first time.

Does repurposing or retiring the system wipe all the data from the server or is using DBAN a better option? I want to wipe all the data from the server including the OS as well.

Hello Arischvaran,
Thank you for choosing Dell.
The Repurpose or Retire System option resets the state of the inventory collection to Enabled, and then permanently deletes the iDRAC and BIOS configuration information, factory-shipped inventory, configurations, Lifecycle Log information (historical data and work notes), backup image file, non-volatile (NV) cache, NVDIMM, operating system driver packs, disk erase, and diagnostics. During this operation, it deletes the hardware and software inventory data related to the system. However, they are recreated during the next restart of the server. It also deletes the firmware and previous versions, which will not be available for firmware rollback

This is no longer the case. The Repurpose or Retire leaves sensitive data in the OSAPP folder found in the TSR export folder. There is no solution currently for removing all data from Dell servers. Big issue that I hope Dell figures out soon. I'm wondering how many people Repurposed there server not knowing the residual data was in there and then go rid of it? This is the first time I've seen the OSAPP folder in the TSR export so it might be an issue with newer servers but not positive.
I have also run in servers that don't have the OSAPP folder that require factory resetting the iDrac independently before perform Repurpose because the Repurpose does not reset everything in the iDrac for what ever reason.
