idrac7 basic management to idrac7 Express

Hi, I have licence for idrac7 Express, when I login on idrac7 its in Basic management mode and I import my licence downloaded from my digital locker it throughs in error "The license was not imported. The error may have occurred due to the following reasons: LIC017-The license file is corrupted, has not been unzipped, or is not a valid license file." can you please help

some how file downloaded from my digital locker was not working, contacted dell support and they sent me another one. Its working now

Good morning,

I'm glad to hear that you got the issue resolved. I wanted to share some information, in case you run into the issue again, or in case somebody else does.

My general troubleshooting process for this looks like the following:

1) running the command racadm racreset -h to reset the iDRAC and then attempt to reapply the license

2) If the license will not import, I'll reissue the license. It's the same basic file, but this would address any sort of issue with the file itself, like some kind of corruption.

3) If that also fails, then I'll generate a new license. The new license option has worked in every case that I've encountered. 

A way to test a new license to troubleshoot in your own time would be to export the current license, then see if a trial license will import. The link to the iDRAC license trial page is below.

Hi there,

I have the same problem, need a valid Express license for iDRAC 7 (R420)

How can I get a new one please?

Hi,
iDRAC7 Enterprise
​needs license but
express -> doesn't. That's a default when installing DRAC H/W.

R420 will come with Basic Management License by default. You can upgrade to Express or Enterprise. Did you had express license on this server before? You can use below link to get more details on iDRAC 7 Licensing and getting a new license.

How can I get a reissue of the basic license for my T320.  

Support call leads me to triage and a cycle into the sales team.  No one is able to help me get Basic working again.

Logging into iDrac takes me to it's licensing page like a trial overwrote the original license and now we cannot access even basic.

Hello MurphTech,

 

The iDRAC Basic is the default. Have you tried removing the entry for the evaluation license?

 

Can you post a picture of what you see? If any personal information is showing you should block that out.

The screen shot shows you are already logged into the DRAC Basic.

 

In the top banner does it say "Basic Management"?

Sorry for the delayed response.  I didn't see a reply come in until now.

 

See attached screenshot.  I do not see where to remove the entry for the evaluation license.

Basic is the default. Express and Enterprise are licensed upgrades.

I didn't see the Enterprise license so I recommend calling Sales to work with them on upgrading the license.

I did find Express license:

Sorry I just noticed that license is 30 day.

Please contact Sales to work with them on upgrading the license.

Yeah, I guess my confusion is that I never have been in iDrac Basic and was expecting the Express interface as the service that should be available.

I would have assumed this server had at least Express and the sales team was not very good at even telling me how to get a quote on this machine because I believe they purchased through a 3rd party and the ownership transfer was never completed.
