Upgrading iDRAC7 firmware

Hello all, I have an old PowerEdge T620 and I'd like to update the iDRAC7 firmware.

Currently it's running:

  • BIOS Version 2.7.0
  • Firmware Version 2.61.60.60
  • Lifecycle Controller Firmware 2.61.60.60

What's the correct upgrade path? I've tried upgrading using within the iDRAC upgrade page via downloads.dell.com but it doesn't seem to work (I've checked my DNS settings are correct):

Thanks

Dear customer

I'd like to ask you to follow below.

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000134013/dell-poweredge-update-the-firmware-of-single-system-components-remotely-using-the-idrac

iDRAC: How to Update Firmware Remotely Using the iDRAC Web Interface ,and use update with individual files instead of catalog.

Process:

  1. Log in to the iDRAC8 or iDRAC7.
  2. Go to Overview, then click iDRAC Settings, and then click Update and Rollback. The Firmware Update page is displayed.
  3. From the Update tab, select Local as the File Location.
  4. Click Browse, select the firmware image file for the required component, and then click Upload.
  5. After the upload is complete, the Update Details section displays each firmware file that is uploaded to iDRAC and its status. If the firmware image file is valid and was successfully uploaded, the Contents column displays a (+) icon next to the firmware image filename. Expand the name to view the Device Name, Current, and Available firmware version information.
  6. Select the required firmware file and do one of the following:
    • For firmware images that do not require a host system reboot, click Install. For example, this could be an iDRAC firmware file.
    • For firmware images that require a host system reboot, click Install and Reboot or Install Next Reboot.
    • To cancel the firmware update, click Cancel.
  7. Click Job Queue to display the Job Queue page, where you can view and manage your pending firmware updates. You can also click OK to refresh the current page and view the status of the firmware update.

Mchen402,

You won't be able to update the iDrac7 to an iDrac8 or 9, as those aren't upgrade versions, but are device generations. So the only way to go to an IDrac8 or 9 would be to buy a server with that generation of iDrac.

Idrac8 were 13th generation poweredge servers (R530, R630, R730, etc

idrac9 was 14th generation poweredge servers (R540, R640.R740, etc)

The 12Gen Servers are removed from the Dell catalog 1.5 years ago, so this will not work and you need to download the FW packages manually  from dell.com/support.

Joerg

@DELL-Young E This is all I see for my machine:

I used it to update my machine to version 2.65.65.65, but it seems I'm still on iDRAC 7.

Is there any paths to iDRAC 8 or 9?

Thanks
