Dell Venue 8 - no solution for the boot problem after Windows 8 clean install!

Hello,

after reinstalling Windows 8.1 Pro on my Venue 8 Pro 3845, I have the often written problem that the tablet does not boot from USB or only to the Dell logo.

There were a lot of claims in the forum. Unfortunately, I found no solution.

Is there a solution?

Is there still support or is the tablet EOP, also hazardous waste?

Thank you!

Hi Holec,

Do you have any links to the issues that you speak of for reference?

For the issue you are experiencing, is the fault intermittent or can it not boot to the USB at all?
Have you tried a different usb key?
Did you update the BIOS to the latest revision before installing Windows 8.1?

With regards to warranty, depending on when you bought the tablet and the warranty purchased, it may have warranty left. I'll send you a direct message and if you could reply to that message with your service tag and email address it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Alan

If the tablet is booting to a black screen after trying the battery removal process, that would suggest there is a problem with the hard drive. On these tablets the hard drive is part of the motherboard and cannot be replaced as an individual component. A replacement motherboard would be required to resolve the issue.

You could try downloading the Dell copy of Windows from the following link and then following the steps in this article to see if that works.

Hello Alan,

Thanks, but my tablet is no longer guaranteed. Two years ago I installed Windows 10. But now I can not update to the last service package. So I would like to install Windows 8.1 Pro.

1. BIOS update A07 dated March 30, 2018 is installed.
2. The Windows 8.1 USB stick was created with the Media Creator from Microsoft.
3. The USB stick was detected and the installation started.
4. I got the message: "Installation completed, remove the USB key".
5. After rebooting, the tablet will hang on the Dell logo.

When I boot from another USB stick, the screen is black. When I start the service, the screen is black.
I can select the BIOS and I had reset it to factory defaults. To plug off the battery doesn't help.

I read in the forum that this is a well-known bug of this tablet series.

My question is: is there a solution to this problem? If not, the tablet is for garbage ...

Dell doesn't support an Windows 8 recovery image for this tablet. I tried it yesterday.
Your hints are for the 5830 not for my 3845...

As you wrote, I think the boot sector was written new by Windows 8 and the Dell bootloader can't work with them.

The problem is: Dell know's this since 2015. And gives no warning to the users of these tablets!
That's very annoying...

Please, can you say how much cost a new motherbord? And can I replace it by myself?

Hi Holec,

Apologies for sending the link to the 5830 article, I don't know how I missed that. Can you advise what country you are based in so I can see what your options are.

Thanks,
Alan

Hello Alan,

I'm from Germany, Munich. I posted my question at the german community, without any answers.

Hi Alan,

thank you. But are you serious, €280 for the repair? In 2015 I paid €90 for this tablet, and today a refurbished motherboard costs $32.

I repeat: I bought a tablet and I can't install a operation system on it. Dell know's that!

But Dell is not worth to investing more time and money. If not, I would sue Dell for this. After 30 years with Dell - that was my last buy of a product or service from Dell.

Have a nice day.

I'm having the same problem. Used recovery option to restore the tablet, now I get dell logo then a black screen. If there is no fix a  may be in order.
