I doubt that you have the Blaster Virus, but maybe something wants you to think so. It appears that you have a few remnants of malware in there, nevertheless.

I am reviewing your log. In the meantime, you can help me by addressing the following:

* Have you have posted this issue on another forum? If so, please provide a link to the topic.

* If you have disabled System Restore in an attempt to begin cleaning malware, please enable it now. We will flush System Restore when we are finished cleaning and we are sure that everything is running smoothly.

* If you are using any cracked software, please remove it. Definition of cracked software HERE.

* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer.  The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state. That includes BitTorrent and similar programs. There is a list HERE.    

* If this computer belongs to someone else, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?

* Have you already fixed entries using HijackThis? If so, please restore all the backups and then post another log.

* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures. Please follow all instructions in sequence. Do not, on your own, install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using. Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

* During the course of our cleanup please do not do any additional online work or surfing until we have verified that your system is clean.

* We may be using some specialized tools during our fix. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as process.exe, restart.exe, SmiUpdate.exe, reboot.exe, ws2fix.exe, prcviewer.exe and nircmd.exe may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case. Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.

* If your replies do not fit in one post while we are handling your issue, please reply to yourself until all text is submitted. It may take several posts.

No I have not posted in another forum, system restore is not disabled, there is no cracked software on here, I was using utorrent for downloading FLAC (lossless audio files) on here but removed utorrent, this is my computer and I have not fixed any Hijackthis entries.

Let's run an online virus scan by Kaspersky from HERE.

• 1. At the main page. Press on " Accept". After reading the contents.
  2. At the next window Select Update. Allow the Database to update.
  Note: If prompted to run or update your Java, then follow the prompts to do so. Kaspersky requires Java to run.
  3. Once the Database has finished, under the Scan icon Select My Computer to start the scan. The scan may take a few minutes to complete.
  4. Select Scan Report.
  5. If any threats were found they will appear in the report
  6. Select "Save error report as"
  Then in the file name just type in kaspersky
  Under "save as type" select text .txt
  Save it to your Desktop.

Copy and post the results of the Kaspersky Online scan. If no threats were found then report that as well.

Here is the report.  I closed out bitdefender before I started this scan.

If that does not find anything, I'd say the problem may have been something temporary. You do have some remnants in there, so we'll fix those and flush System Restore when you return.

Do you think you could run another F-Secure scan and come up with 0 infected files? I want to make sure all those bad files are really gone.

We can use another tool if you prefer. Let me know what you want to do.

O.K. Heres what happened. I ran F-Secure two times with the ID-24 error showing up twice at what looked to be close to the end of the scan. Restarted the browser tried it the second time and it didn't work so when it was like 3/4 of the way through and it had the same ammount of spyware and viri detected as it did when it got the error code I manually stopped it and disinfected the files.

I will run it again. Do you think cutting it off where I did had any negative effect on it? The report says that nothing ended up being removed. It was just sent to F-Secure. What do you think is up with that? The F-secure has some Vundo removal tools, should I go with that and try and remove them or is that what is built into the online scanner?

One more thing, this malware I thought I removed months ago when I had a problem and I ran malwarebytes, bitdefender, flushed, and ran other programs like CC Cleaner, etc... Everything came up clean for some time and Windows was running like when I first got the Dell or, are these the same ones or, is this problem so big that they are constantly infectling comsumers computers?

I ran again, the same ID-24 error came up aroung 310,000 files scanned. It said there were still 7 virus left, 30 items skipped this time? and only 1 spyware. I don't think this is the route to go anymore!! .........

It looks like what is left in there is from the old infection -- just the .ini files. They are not exactly active "viruses", but are components -- remnants -- plain-text files that contain configuration information.

Run Disk Cleanup in each user's profile: Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup" Please make sure only the following are checked:

-- Recycle Bin

-- Temporary Files

Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot.
