Problem with Microsoft Spyware beta program

Question

This program has worked fine until today. I went to look for updates and it hung up while supposedly downloading updates 1863-1865...I think that was the number. The cancel button was grayed out and I had to resort to the 3 finger salute to restart. Tried it again but the update number was not visable this time with same freeze up,  so had to restart again. Went ahead and deleted it...hopefully it did not take any thing else important with it.   I think it also tried to change things in Norton. I have things set to prompt me for updates, but I got a rather large pop-up box right after receiving the little Norton pop-up that updates were available. This was before I checked the beta for updates. The large box said it was changing some registry settings, and lo and behold, when I went to Norton settings, the choices were automatic instead of prompt. I have to assume the MS product made these changes, and if this new program is that pushy, I don't want anything to do with it.   If anyone has some other updates or complaints on this or other forums about the changes the beta version makes, I would like to study them. The product appears to have some hope, but if it makes changes in my other security settings I don't want it. Thanks for any responses.

Try posting this in the WindowsXP forum. I think you will probobly get a quicker repsonse. Sorry but I don't have the answer to your question. Steve
