Laptops requiring battery disconnection before rebooting.

Hi there,

This is more of a general query. We have a number of (out of warranty) Dell laptops out with customers that have the same issue. They will periodically not power on, and then we have to travel to site, disconnect the battery, drain "flea" power as Dell call it, and then it will power back on again.

With the older models, we used to be able to talk the people through disconnecting the battery (which was detachable without requiring a screwdriver) without having to travel to site. Modern laptops require that you remove the back cover to detach the battery, and customers are not prepared to do this.

Are we simply to replace all of these laptops or what do other people do?

regards,

Jonathan.

Well that are we talking about a battery operated device or plug to the wall? what exactly trying to reset? The devises come with internal battery to hold the time and bios information removing the LT battery will not reset that you must have access to that battery and unplug it for 5 minutes to reset to factory settings that will not reset the boot lock password.
