Speed (either transfer speed or disk speed tests) with a Thunderbolt external M.2 drive?

Hi,

I have been trying to test the Thunderbolt 4 port on my Vostro 15 7510 (running Windows 10 Pro).  Testing has been using both transfer of large number of photo images (both raw and jpegs) and also using Black magic Disk Speed test.

I have a variety of external enclosures and M.2 SSD, including an HP 500, and an XPG S70 Blade (which is supposed to be PCIe 4 and supposed to be able to do 7400 MB/s, and several M.2 SSD enclosures that I've purchased over time, including and Ineo "10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen2" enclosure and a Sabrent M.2. enclosure that is "USB 3.2 10Gbps".

I don't have an enclosure that is Thunderbolt 3 or 4 yet, but I have one incoming soon.

I also have a Plugable Thunderbolt 4 5-port hub, and I've been testing connected both to this hub as well as directly to the Vostro Thunderbolt 4 port.

Using the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test app, I am seeing write speed of about 400 MB/s and read speed about 800-900 MB/s.  Doing file transfers with large number of image files is average about 108 MB/s, but the speeds during the transfer fluctuate wildly, from maybe 30 MB/s to 300 MB/s.

So I was wondering what kind of speeds other Vostro users might be seeing using both USB 3.3 external M.2 SSDs and Thunderbolt 3 or 4 external M.2 SSDs?

Thanks,

Jim
