Go to SolutionVostro 5410, auto-downloads Thunderbolt Control Center?
System Information:
Model: Dell Vostro 5410 (14-inch)
CPU: Intel Core i5-11320H
OS: Fresh installation of Windows 11 (Official Microsoft ISO)
The Situation:
After performing a clean installation of Windows 11 and letting Windows Update install everything, my system automatically downloaded the Thunderbolt Control Center. The software indicates that my system has one Thunderbolt port (my laptop only has one USB Type-C port).
However, this contradicts two things:
The Type-C port on my laptop does not have the Thunderbolt lightning icon next to it.
The official Dell specification page states that Thunderbolt capabilities are only available on the i7 models.
The Confusion:
To investigate further, I entered my exact Service Tag on the Dell Drivers & Downloads page. Surprisingly, the site still listed a Thunderbolt driver specifically for my device. And I also found a device name thunderbolt controller in Device Manager.
My Test:
I decided to test the port using a Dell TB16 Thunderbolt Dock connected to its power adapter.
The system successfully received charging power via the Type-C connection.
However, Dell Power Manager popped up a notification stating that my Type-C port will not support all functions of the dock.
Inside the Thunderbolt Control Center, nothing changed. It did not ask to approve the Thunderbolt device; it just continued to show "Port 1".
My Questions:
Does my specific laptop model actually have a Thunderbolt port or not?
If it does not, why did Windows automatically download the Thunderbolt Controller, and why does Dell list a Thunderbolt driver for my specific Service Tag?
Thanks in advance for any clarification!
