Acronis True Image 10 Home

I did a search on the Dell Forums and found several trustworthy people recommending this Acronis program for backing up the computer.  Is it reliable with Vista?  I'm installing a trial version now, after I just did a factory image restore of my computer, which took a long time.  If this program is versatile and makes restoring the whole hard drive easy, I might buy it.

Top notch software, the best imo.
 
When you buy it, register the software at the Acronis website, then you can get free upgrades for that version, and it is always recommended to run the latest version. They have upgrades about twice a year or so, I check about every 3 months.
 
Be sure to read ALL documentation before using, it is very powerful software with many features, you may not want to use all of them but is is always good to be informed.

Be sure to image the entire drive all partitions, not just the C partition.

I too recommend Acronis. I'm currently running it on XP and Vista machines. Great application!

There is another advertised for$699.00!!! called Acronis True Image 9.1 enterprise server!!
I do not think I will need, Do I ?

Hi
If I choose to purchase Acronis on line and when I I am down-loading, Can I leave the virus scan active in the background.
Or Is it better to order it and to obtain the disk and install it while not on line[so can  stop the virus scan in the background?]

It is not an issue, download it, no sense in having the media, since you will be upgraging to the latest version sometime in the future.

I've been using Acronis True Image 10.0 Home with both Vista and XP, without a problem on several systems :)

True Image Home 10 has many attractive features.  Unfortunately, on Vista, it is evidently marred by bugs associated with restoring and cloning. 
 
Although these bugs were reported and confirmed by others earlier this year, they still have not been fixed as of this date.
 
The reported bugs include:
- The standalone disk can damage the MBR of a functioning hard drive when it is used.
- The standalone disk, for restores of a individual partition(s) and certain other operations, fails to properly create/recreate a functional MBR and/or Vista-compatible partition structure during the restore.
- Other problems
 
These problems are severe, resulting in damage to the existing system, and/or inability to boot a restored system.  (Remedial actions were identified/developed in many cases, requiring the use of the Microsoft Vista install disk (if one is available), or a repair tool on BartPE (see the threads below for details), to repair the damaged disk.)
 
For further information, see the following threads (among others on the same site):
 
Among other things, experiments were done on competing backup/restore packages, to see if they had such problems in restore on Vista.  None of the competing packages exhibited such bugs. 
 
I would avoid TI Home on Vista until these various restore and cloning issues have been resolved.  Despite these bugs, the existing version of TI Home, 10.0.4942, has not been updated since February.  Once an updated version is eventually posted, you may wish to check the above site for confirmation that these bugs have been fixed, i.e., prior to potential purchase.

Along with the fact that nothing is perfect, This statement is utter hogwash in my opinion. I have used it even on the Vista betas and never had any issues restoring or creating images. The same cannot be said about Norton.

               Yes, this statement has no truth to it what so ever....
All I have used since switching to Vista since it was in beta is acronis. And for the past year Vista x64, and Acronis has saved the day for me many times.
   This statement was clearly made by someone with no experience with Acronis. It does work with Vista, and it works well!!!
