Activex controls

Hello, I am having trouble with an application and Activex.  I have a Dimension 8400 with Windows XP.  I am having problems when I try to run EA downloader, it is from EA games and allows you to download patches and games from EA.  When I run the software I get a prompt that states "Your current security settings prohibit active x controls from running on this page and it may not load properly".  I then get a partialy loaded log in page (to EA) that does not work.  I have worked with EA support for a week with no luck, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, I have tweaked security settings, I have deleted registry keys (the one EA advised me to), I have shut down all the background tasks I could, EA has had me set up a new admin account on my computer and try running it from there, and I get the same results.  I have also posted in the gaming section but since I feel this is a software issue I would ask for help here, Thanks.  Oh, I run McAfee virus scan and Firewall if that is important and my internet security options are set to medium, which is what is recommended by EA.

Just being curious.  When you go to Tools > Internet Options > Security, there is a Default Level button for each zone, is any of them clickable?

What security or firewall application are you running on your computer?

Thanks for responding, yes the options are clickable.  Security is McAfee virus scan version 4400, build 10.0.27, McAfee firewall build 7.1.133., the windows firewall is disabled.

In that case, for each zone that the Default Level button becomes enabled/clickable, click on it to reset to IE default.  Click OK to save.

I'm not using McAfee firewall, but have you checked it for any option that will block ActiveX plugin installation?

I know I was prompted by the Mc firewall for permission for the EA software, other apps I have ran run the activex ok.  I'll check into that though, I was just fixin to do a reinstall of the EA software with the Mc firewall disabled, windows fire wall enabled.  I really appreciate your help!!!  As far as my browser security settings, I have pretty much tuned them down to nothing and still have the same problem.

One or more Active X controls could not be displayed because either 1) Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. Fix : In Windows Mail / MS Outlook, go to Tools, Options, Security, then change the setting from "Restricted site zone" to "Internet zone."
