AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) makes my computer crash!

Just after I downloaded AIM 5.9, I restarted my computer and got an error message that Windows could not load and something about looping. I got the same message the next few times I restarted my computer. I had to call support to walk me through uninstalling AIM. I asked the technician why this happened, and he said it must have downloaded improperly. He suggested I come to the forums to find out how I can install AIM properly.

I used to use AIM all the time, but then when my computer started crashing on me, I got rid of many programs, including AIM. It turned out my hard drive was damaged and I needed a new one. Once I got the new hard drive, I tried downloading AIM 5.9, and that's when I got the error message. I don't want to mess up my new hard drive, so I haven't tried installing it again. I do miss having it.

If anyone else had this problem, please advise me on what to do.

Don't know if this will help, but I read this article a bit back in the Houston Chronicle.  It has to do with AIM, and problems with installation.  Also, it provides a link for downloading previous versions of AIM if you are having problems with the current version.  Take a look here.
