Can't find XP reinstallation CD

I want to install the backup utility on the CD, but I can't seem to find it. I remember calling Dell to tell them that they sent me 2 copies of PowerDVD with my system [they said no problem] and now I know why I don't have the XP CD-ROM...because they sent me an extra PowerDVD instead. It is already past my one-year warranty period. Does anyone know if I have any chace at convincing them to send me a CD?

Pumpedup,

There is very little chance that you can get a replacement XP CD. Dell's policy is that they will replace missing/damaged CDs within 30 days of the computer's invoice date. Some have gotten lucky and contacted a tech who was unaware of the policy and have gotten a replacement, but it does take luck.

Calling tech support would cost me money since my warranty is finished. Is it legal for me to get the utility off of someone else's CD?

Pumpedup,

There is no legal problem involved in doing that.
