Disk management --> Hard disk partition
I am following the below steps even then i am getting the same error as "You cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains maximum number of partitions",
any other way to format the unallocated space in my hard drive.
-
Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button clickingControl Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. In the left pane, underStorage, click Disk Management.
-
Right-click an unallocated region on my hard disk, and then click New Simple Volume.
-
In the New Simple Volume Wizard, click Next.
-
Typing the size of the volume i want to create in megabytes (MB) or accept the maximum default size, and then clickNext.
-
Accept the default drive letter or choose a different drive letter to identify the partition, and then clickNext.
-
In the Format Partition dialog box, i tried with the below 2 methods also:
-
click Do not format this volume, and then click Next.
-
To format the volume with the default settings, click Next.
-
-
After this when i click finish it is throwing an error as "You cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains maximum number of partitions"
Thanks & Regards

You should always include the model of computer and Operating System in use in your posts. You did not include information about how the HDD is now partitioned. You probably need to use a third party progam such as Partition Majic to get more than four partitions on one HDD. Windows has a built in limit on the number of partitions it will allow. Reread the error message you are getting. I belive you have reached the max.!!

Does your HD contain your recovery partition. It has been known for disc management to show this message when you have 3 or 4 partitions on your HD.

Hi RobinBredin,
Yes my HD is having a partition (RECOVERY),
But - i am having only 2 partitions (RECOVERY and OS(C Drive), another is unallocoted space.
Can i deletete the recovery drive in the disk management and add the unallocated space? whether it will help me?
Thanks & Regards

Hi, Chenthilp, See your system will be looking at that "Unallocated space" as a partition, so according to computer management, you have 3 partitions. The way around it would be to format your HD, removing all partitions, then reinstall using your recovery DVD, but I won't ask you to do that, I'll leave it up to you. Have you tried using a piece of software called gparted, I have used that in the past, and it is good for making partitions. It was made for Linux, but you can use it on windows. Download it, then burn the ISO to disc, then boot off it to use it.

At present, the disk with 2048GB can be seen everywhere with the expansion of computer disk space, so to partition a hard drive with a large amount of space become more and more urgent. Read on "How to Partition a Hard Drive"

I would contact Dell support to send you out a reinstall cd/dvd.
