Express Vista Upgrade-I feel cheated.

What OS do you have now? XP Home you only get Vista Basic.

I'm sorry but I fail to see how this is unfair, if you had read the terms of the express upgrade at the time of purchasing your system it quite clearly gave the possible upgrade paths from the XP editions.

 

Anyway you're still saving yourself at least £20 from the retail price of even an oem version of Home Basic.

Like to say its my mistake but I made the choice to contact Dell and took their word rather than read the smallprint.

It still does not explain the price hike nor the fact that Acer are offering Premium. What is a give away is your recognition of my receiving an inferior product otherwise why smuggly mention your anticipated Premium edition.

 

I was misled by Dell and their employees and in acknowledging my error for not interpreting the applcation properly I did seek clarification and was deceived. Hence, I do not feel that cheated is too strong a word.

It is unfair simply because at the time I applied the info supplied to me was Premium for £6.00 shipping and handling only. Now that my order is pending it is Basic for £ 11.00 s/h and £25.00 charge. It is Dell who have moved the Goalposts. That to me is unfair. It is also unfair that at the time of purchase there was no mention of needing Windows Media Centre to get Premium otherwise I would have ordered WMC2005.

 

N.B. I paid £650 for my system my son paid £500.00 for an Acer laptop and is getting Premium for £14.40 in all a much better saving from a smaller company.

when I refer to Basic as being an inferior product, it is because I have read sufficient info. that says Basic is a make do product that allows computer manufacturers to cheaply window dress their systems as being Vista systems. I think your right, I think I will stick with XP,  let other people iron out the bugs in Vista, then purchase Vista at a cheaper price when the novelty has worn out. 

You have my apologies for coming across as smug, I do agree that the Home Basic edition is inferior but that tagline is just my signature, It shows up on all my posts.

 

Apologies also for having a bit of a go at you but if you had mentioned that you had actually spoken to someone at Dell in your original post then I would have understood your annoyance straight away but it just seemed that you had not read the information that was readily available.

 

Do you have a record of who you spoke to and gave you this info? If so keep contacting Dell (they do respond now and again!) and try and get them to pay the extra for a copy of home premium. If they refuse, ask for a refund of your £36 and buy an oem copy of home premium (available for about £65) and install it yourself. I know this would still leave you out of pocket but at least you would get the os you want, probably a lot quicker and with a lot less hassle.

Well to really split the hairs here. Dell is only following Microsofts guidelines about the available Express Upgrade paths.

 

XP Home = Vista Home Basic.

XP MCE   = Vista Home Premium

XP Profes = Vista Business

XP X64 Ed = Vista Business

Nothing      =  Vista Ultimate

 

The Express Upgrade program was a Microsoft Program.
