I Need Step by Step Instructions on Uncompressing Files

I need step by step instructions on how to uncompress Windows files once they have been compressed. I have read other articles about this on the forum, but none contained step by step instructions on what I should do. Also, the Microsoft articles mentioned in one forum was entirely too overwhemling and didn't pinpoint precisely what I needed to know.

I realize that uncompression may be a DOS command, but I need to know precisely where to start and how to finish. Where can I find precisely what I am looking for?

PLEASE DO NOT point me to a link that has an article with a glob of information for me to sort through. I've tried this already and it only confuses me more. I appreciate any and all help thanks!

See the tutorial viewlet here. If that's too technical (it was created to be just the opposite), perhaps you can enlist the aid of someone used to sorting through "globs of information."

can you give some more specific information as to what it is that you are trying to do?

Dear redwolfe_98:

I was trying to uncompress files that had been compressed after I ran the clean disk utility. After I ran this utility, I had problems with Windows Media Player 10 showing all of my music files. So, as a fix, I attempted to undo the error of compressing files. The problem was, I didn't know how to uncompress the files.

I figured out what I needed to do! Thank God, Almighty!

 - Open the My Documents Folder
 - Just to be safe, highlight all folders [CTRL-A]
 - RIght click one of the highlighted files
 - Click Properties
 - Under the General Tab Click Advanced
 - Uncheck the box that reads "Compress contents to save disk space"

Note: if the box is not checked but displays a green hue, then SOME of the files highlighted are compressed. Still click the box to uncheck it so that the box looks completely white.

Also, the uncompressing step will take a while depending on just how many files you have highlighted. I tried this fix myself and it seemed to be effective.

Then you're done!
