Many, many errors - .DLLs and more!

First off, when I turn on the computer and Windows ME loads...I get two error messages.

The first one is "A required .DLL file, PGSDK.DLL was not found." The second one is "Explorer has caused an error in WDMKH.DLL. Explorer will now close." I cannot get rid of the second message. I can click OK, but it just "refreshes" the screen and the message appears again, while the wallpaper is replaced by that white error screen where you have to click the button to restore it.

This may be why my IE 5.5 freezes on most websites. By then, I can't close the window and CTRL+ALT+Delete does nothing. No menu, no restarting. The buttons are useless. In fact, I can't shut down or restart the correct way...rather I must turn it off manually...the computer freezes up after displaying the message saying programs are still open and you can choose to wait, end task, or cancel. It freezes no matter which button I choose and it must be referring to the second error message.

The computer also freezes (except the pointer) if I have a large Start menu around for too long, or if I open programs like Word. In fact, a recently saved Word document cannot be opened because it is now the wrong format or something like that.

It may or may not be releated, but my McAfee detected a virus in C:\_RESTORE\ARCHIVE\FS132.CAB
It can't be deleted, quarantined, or cleaned.

This may be why my System Restore doesn't work. It actually restarts just fine...but it says it cannot restore the computer.

A side note...this is my second attempt to post. The first time, I couldn't get through and it brought me to some thing called Best of the Web errorpage. When I went back...the post was gone.

Another thing while I'm here...every day, when I've opened IE, it connects to a different homepage each time...pages I've never heard of nor set. I've always had the homepage as http://www.msn.com but it would be set to some other site automatically and I would have to type in the new, MSN homepage.

So...what the heck is going on? Thanks in advance, anyone that can get a crack at this.

Here is a link to some information about one of the .dll files you are having a problem with.  I found nothing on the other.

Beyond that, the virus detected by your A/V is in your System Restore directory...a protected area which, is why it cannot be cleaned.  To remove it, disable your System Restore feature and reboot the computer.  This will dump all restore points (useless anyway due to the infection) after which, you can re-enable if you wish.

On the Home Page problem you have what is known as a, "Home Page Hijacker".  I suggest you post this particular problem in the conference dealing with Spyware and Virii for assistance removing it.

Thanks for the info. It still leaves that Explorer error to be figured out, which seems to be the cause of a lot of other problems...but I got to do things one thing at a time. I'll get to work on this System Restore business then look at the other info. Thanks agian.

I don't believe WDMKH.DLL is a valid file...rather, I suspect it is either a typo as posted or possibly even, malicious in nature.  My suggestions are to get the virus totally removed, clean the hijacker (and probably other spyware you have) and go from there.  There also comes a point when things are sufficiently fouled up that a reformat emerges as the path of least resistance.
