Problem with Quickset

Hi,

I have an XPS 15z laptop and have problems with Quickset. When the program runs windows lose focus randomly. So I disabled it in msconfig and now ecerything's fine. The problem appeared, I think, shortly after I had installed Google Talk. Eventually I uninstalled Google Talk and re-installed Quickset yet the problem is still there. Is there any solutions to this? I want Quickset to work.

Thanks,
kosaruben

Hi kosaruben,

Welcome to the Community.

Quickset can be downloaded from the below link.

However, I would not think Quickset has anything to do with Google Talk software. Could you please be more specific when you say windows is loosing focus?

Thanks,

Nikhil

Yes, I have the latest version of Quickset but I was just wondering if Google Talk changed something in the registries; something that is also used by Quickset or I don't know.

When I say windows lose focus I mean for example when browsing the web the browser suddenly loses focus (I can't scroll down for example or type in things only if I click on the browser again to 'focus' on it). But it happens if I do nothing as well not only with the browser. When typing in this I had to 'focus' on the browser at least 6 times... I hope I could define my problem.

And actually it is very interesting because if I start Quickset manually after booting it has no problems. But when it is enabled in msconfig, windows start to 'lose focus'. I am really perplexed.

Now I understood the problem, Does the focus go on any other application that is runing the background ?

1)If you have an issue with touchpad drivers , then the cursor would jump from one place to another which could make the window you working on, loosing its focus and you have to click back on it again.

2)Since when are you having the problem ? Did you try the System restore and checked with it ?

Ideally, the Google Talk has nothing do with the Quickset application or changing the registry settings.

I'm having the same issue.

From your questions I think you haven't understood the problem. I fact it's so simple that's very hard to explain.

It has nothing to do with any other application.

I have a XPS 15z since August last year and the problem was present form the beginning.  kosaruben is right, the focus is going nowhere, really.

Let's say you are typing a password in a webpage, editing a word document, typing a command in the Run field, or watch a movie in any player... now you can see that your current window is selected, the next second is not selected anymore, without any user intervention, you are typing "in the wind". Seriously, I tried dozens of times to see which application became active, with no success (it's not going on desktop or any other application). And it happens absolutely random, now, in 3 seconds, in 1 minute, and again every second.

Pressing  Alt-F4 three times bring your cursor back where you were typing. And so I discovered that killing quickset.exe I get rid of the problem.

Long story, stupidly simple problem, hope you understood now.

I've got the latest quickset.exe version 11.0.11.2 available on dell website, and Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium OEM.

Hi, I did get the issue and thanks for being so brief as I have found a similar thread regarding the same problem.

Please don’t go by the Title of the thread specifically. However, do take time to read through the posts as few had made the keyboard ambient automatic sensor from the Quickset disabled which made this solve the issue for them and others had this problem fixed by uninstalling the Dell stage.

Please refer to post made by jondomanus in the 2nd page of the above thread on how to disable the keyboard ambient automatic sensor.

Thanks and revert back if you still need any help.

Disappointed. This comes along with months of frustration with cypress trackpad driver (now solved by sort of disabling its edges sensitivity).

I've read the posts at the first link and noticed that DELL is reading the posts but doesn't provide an update for the bug despite hundreds of people at wits' end. I wish someone could make dell pay for the thousands of hours users spent trying to find workarounds for software bugs.

Disabling the sensor (and trackpad, and what's next? the lcd? the hdd, maybe the cpu) is not the solution we are waiting for, but reliable and bug-free drivers.

Anyway, DELL-Nikhil M, thanks for the link, it solved hid the problem. No thanks to dell, though.
