re-install Windows xp on dell precision 380

In bios, is your hdd set to ata or ahci mode?

A couple of things come to mind:

• Does your system indeed have SATA drives, or does it have SCSI drives?  The 380 could be configured with either.  If SCSI, then you would need drivers for the Adaptec controller they are connected to.  If SATA,  you are on the right track.
• You posted the Version.txt file in your post, so I'm just assuming that you extracted all 9 files and put them on your floppy disk (?).  Did you also "Unblock" the file upon downloading it (right-click file, Properties, Unblock). 
• Did you get an error message?  Or did it simply seem to work, just to not find any drives at the end.
• When loading the driver at F6, Windows might try to tell you that it already has a driver you can use, causing you to hit a different key to use the driver on the floppy - I get caught there if I'm not paying attention - make sure you choose to use the driver on the floppy rather than the default option to continue with the driver Windows already has.
• Have you tried nLiteOS.com?

If it were me, I would use nLite to integrate the drivers into your installation media, creating a new install disk (just remember in doing so to select Multiple Driver files and select all drivers presented, then choose TextMode Drivers).

The system was eqipment with SCSI, howerver i have removed them and the SCSI 320 card.

ther was no problemes addin the file on a disk, and pressin F6 durin the installation of windows xp, ther it comes up 4 avaible drivers.

The rest drives should be shown in windows add drives installation, but does not, and i found the drives i am lookin for. (what i belive to be the drives for the system incording to windows vista)

This one,, but this drives does not show from the disk....so i think ther is a BUG from Dell....

if more people get like me then it is defently some bug and dell must fix the file

Good question, i am not sure, i only know that the SATA raid is set to automatic detect raid, maybe wrong "window" in bios?

Well, I doubt that there is a problem with the file, but assuming there is something wrong with the file, you could always try an older version ... there is almost zero chance that both would be bad:

Another option would be to get the driver for the Intel 955X Express chipset directly from Intel (this usually works exactly the same, but depending on the system requirements per the OEM, it is possible that it won't work):

Another thought ... what Service Pack does  your XP CD have on it?  I wouldn't even try this with less than SP2 - the latest driver may have a minimum requirement for the SP level.  You can use nLite to integrate Service Packs if it is not at least SP2 ... and I would still use nLite to integrate the driver.

I would try it with you, but i do not have a 380 to try it with.

You dont need a 380 in order to see if i am right about the bug in the file....thats not that far i am askin for help..

i can get a photo in order to get u to understand when and were the problem accours, so what drives do i need?

this one, but they do not show up.....se explane to me how cant the file be bugged? it shows 4 drives of 11....not good...

the only thing i am askin...but the file in disk start windows xp installaion and tell me if u see all 11 drivers or just the 4 as i see....no more needed, if u see as me 4 drives then we got proof of a bug in the file from dell.

Since I don't have access to a floppy disk or drive at the office, I will have to check when I get home.  In the meantime, I would suggest you look at the alternatives I have offered.  It would be a similar test if you tested the older Dell version and/or the latest Intel version to see if the correct drivers are offfered there - or use nLite to see if you can put the ICH7 drivers into the installation media.

What SP level of XP CD are you using?

I had the same problem, only 4 showed up...then I tried using my arrow keys...and I was able to arrow down through the entire list of drivers.  Now my only problem is that I'm not sure which is the right one!

What Service Pack level is on your disk?

If you use nLite, you can simply select them all and Windows will then use whichever one it likes best.

Precision 380, Windows XP-SP2

That actually didn't resolve my inability to install Windows on the unavailable harddrive.

I went back into the BIOS and changed the SATA Operations setting from RAID Autodetect / AHCI (default) to RAID Autodetect / IDE (previous selection).  The install went seamlessly, without need of any floppies or additional drivers.  Who knew?!  Spent a lot of time searching for solutions, when I should have just left the BIOS settings alone and not tried to go with the default settings!

Setting SATA in the BIOS to IDE turns "off" all SATA features that make SATA better than old IDE drives (cache, NCQ, error recovery, etc.)  The proper way is to load the drivers for the correct controller, but go ahead and leave it alone if you can live with it in a degraded mode.

how can i get a factory recovery disk for a precision 380?
