Registry Errors

Re: Dimension 8200, with XP home edition loaded. I’m having registry problems that I think are causing my computer to run slow and to close down programs.  Here are some of the issues that I hope someone can help me with or at least point me in the right direction.

  1. NvCpl Daemon  RUNDLL32.exe, c:\windows\system32\NvCpl.dill, NVStart up.
  2. Web Browser problem.  Says the active X/COM section of your registry refers to one or more invalid files.  This will cause applications to not run and may crash your PC.  Software\Microsoft\Internet
  3. Windows 3.1 migration status.  This unused folder of your registry refers to obsolete links.
  4. The temporary files section refers to one or more orphan file on your HDD.  This will slowdown your PC.

Thanks,

Sounds like you need to run a registry cleaner program, I have a freeware version of an oldie but goodie that I can email you. I have used it for over 5 years on hundreds of PC's with no ill effect.

Found this discussion regarding registry cleanups. I just accessed one of the "free" registry fix sites and got a scan which of course told me my slow performance might be related to the 1400 registry errors i have.  Rather than buy their software, is there recent  free software out there that people have found useful for cleaning up registry errors and improving coputer performance?

Cybergal29, the four points you mentioned on your posts, where did they come from?  From some pop-up perhaps?  Orphaned files on your disk or obsolete links are not a performance problem.  I think without actually being at your computer, someone is trying to sell you worthless software.  Registry errors usually occur because of system failures, user access of the registry, or some malware.  Registries do not “just go bad” over time.

ocanboy,I personaly have used CCleaner for well over a year(. ).Just make sure you look at each item that is shows,as you may not want to get rid of everything that shows up on a scan.Good Cleaning!
